Background
Don was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and moved to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia in 1983 to attend the University of British Columbia. After graduation, Don articled with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP) becoming a chartered accountant in 1990. In 1998, Don completed his law degree at the University of British Columbia and was Called to the Bar in 1999. Since then, Don has advised clients on a variety of tax and related matters, both as a chartered accountant and a called lawyer.
In addition to his tax advisory practice with the Firm, Don carries on the practice of tax and business law under the firm name Smetheram & Company, including representing taxpayers in the Tax Court of Canada and acting for clients in the purchase and sale of businesses.

Don is married with two children. In his spare time, Don enjoys golf, squash and hockey.
